Italy’s EPC Market Gains Momentum

June 09, 2023

The engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) market in Italy has been witnessing steady growth over the past few years.

EPC in Italy

The country’s government has been investing heavily in infrastructure development, leading to an increase in demand for EPC services across different sectors such as energy, transportation, and construction.

Industry Growth

The EPC industry is crucial for the successful execution of large-scale projects. The energy sector is a significant contributor to the growth of the EPC market in Italy. The country has set ambitious targets to increase the share of renewable energy in the overall energy mix.

According to Mordor Intelligence, the energy demand in Italy is anticipated to grow significantly, and the national energy and climate plan set the government to achieve an ambitious target of 55% renewable power generation by 2030. Thus, creating surplus market opportunities for the EPC market players in the coming years.

Government Incentives and Subsidies

The government has introduced a series of incentives and subsidies, which have led to an increase in the installation of renewable energy projects. EPC companies are playing a crucial role in the successful execution of these projects.

A report by Mordor Intelligence cites that the Italian’s government 2021 Simplification Decree would remove permit bottlenecks. In addition, the national grid operator Terna will invest USD 21.5 billion over the next 10 years to improve transmission links, which indicates a growth trend in power EPC contracts in Italy.

Market Competition

This sector in Italy is highly competitive, with both local and international firms vying for market share. Italian EPC companies have a strong presence in the market, with a deep understanding of local regulations and expertise in executing complex projects.

International firms have also been making significant inroads into the market, leveraging their global expertise and capabilities.

The country’s ambitious renewable energy targets and the growth of the construction sector are also contributing to the demand for EPC services.

Alectris and EPC

Alectris has extensive experience in EPC services. In addition to its suite of services, including revamping, repowering and operations and maintenance, Alectris is highly skilled at determining a client’s needs and/or specific plant(s) specifications and/or constraints.

Alectris excels at providing tailored solutions based on different configurations with the main components (e.g. fixed system vs tracker, string inverter vs central, poly vs mono PV modules etc.) and submit an EPC Price on a project-basis.

Solar plant owners hire Alectris to troubleshoot, test and restore the full operation of their solar plants through EPC contracts. In most cases, the Alectris monitoring system ACTIS ERP is installed to track down operational anomalies that include module and inverter failures.

Conclusion

In conclusion, as Italy continues to invest in infrastructure development, the EPC market is expected to remain a key contributor to the country’s economic growth.
