Alectris is proud to announce that the “Anatolian Racers” team sponsored by Alectris took second place in the Greek National Finals of “F1 in schools” competition. The team from the Anatolia College (Thessaloniki, Greece) qualified to the World Finals, which will take place in Melbourne, Australia at a later date this year.
The “F1 in schools” is the biggest Youth Entrepreneurship and student (aged 9–19) STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) competition in the world, in which groups of a minimum of 3 students have to design and manufacture a miniature car out of the official F1 Model Block using CAD/CAM design tools.
The participants are asked to design the cars following extensive regulations, in a similar fashion to Formula 1. The cars are powered by CO2 cartridges and are attached to a track by a nylon wire. The cars are raced on a 20m long track with two lanes, allowing two cars to be raced simultaneously.
Despite the difficult circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the Anatolia team qualified for the second time to the “Fi in schools” world championship. The Anatolian Racers have prior experience in the competition, including successful qualification to the 2019 World Finals in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, taking 13th place, and presenting the 3rd fastest car.
“The “F1 in schools” tournament introduces youth to engineering in a fun environment, and leads to the development of interpersonal, social and professional skills, such as effective teamwork and communication with sponsors,” said Vassilis Papaeconomou, Managing Director of Alectris.
”We feel that it is our obligation to provide means and resources for talented and ambitious young people, as our future depends upon them. We are excited to support the Anatolia College team on their journey and hope that the competition spurs on their desire to become engineers in the future. We are extremely proud of them – of their hard work and commitment! We wish the Anatolian Racers all the very best in the World Finals and look forward to assisting them along the way.”
