Alectris is proud to announce that it is sponsoring the “Anatolian Racers” team from the Anatolia College in Thessaloniki in the “F1 in schools” competition. The series is the biggest Youth Entrepreneurship and student (aged 9–19) STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) competition in the world, in which groups of a minimum of 3 students have to design and manufacture a miniature car out of the official F1 Model Block using CAD/CAM design tools.
The participants are asked to design the cars following extensive regulations, in a similar fashion to Formula 1. The cars are powered by CO2 cartridges and are attached to a track by a nylon wire. The cars are raced on a 20m long track with two lanes, allowing two cars to be raced simultaneously.
The Anatolia team has some prior experience in the competition, including qualification to the 2019 World Championships in Abu Dhabi, taking 13th place in the 55-strong group competition, and presenting the 3rd fastest car.
The “F1 in schools” competition is held annually in over 40 different countries at both Regional and National levels. The overall winners of the National contests are invited to compete at the World Finals, which takes place this year in Singapore on September 11-18.
“The “F1 in schools” tournament introduces youth to engineering in a fun environment, and leads to the development of interpersonal, social and professional skills, such as effective teamwork and communication with sponsors,” said Vassilis Papaeconomou, Managing Director of Alectris.
”We feel that it is our obligation to provide means and resources for talented and ambitious young people, as our future depends upon them. We are excited to support the Anatolia College team on their journey, and hope that the competition spurs on their desire to become engineers in the future. We wish the Anatolian Racers all the very best in the competition, and look forward to assisting them along the way.”
