Alectris Performs Solar PV Operations and Maintenance for Second Largest Solar Install in Georgia

February 25, 2014

The week of February10, 2014 clocked records of two different sorts in the state of Georgia.  First for the history books were winter storms of un-south like behavior.  Second was the dedication of the state’s second largest solar power installations.

In the midst of those record winter storms, Alectris client Origis Energy dedicated two solar power plants, representing the state’s second largest solar installations. The two solar power sites, with a combined capacity of 23.5 megawatts (MW) DC, are located in Camilla and Woodbury, Ga. and will deliver clean solar energy to Georgia Power, the largest subsidiary of Southern Company, one of the nation’s largest generators of electricity, under the utility’s Large-Scale Solar Initiative.

Alectris, a global solar PV operations and maintenance (O&M) service provider with projects under management in Greece and Italy, makes its U.S. entry with the Origis Energy Georgia projects.  O&M considerations have been engineered into the projects from inception, with Alectris acting as a consulting specialist throughout the engineering and construction process.

“Baking in O&M considerations from the inception of the project allowed us to ensure we could most effectively meet performance requirements of the projects once online,” said Ken Kostok, Operations and Maintenance Manager for Alectris.  Kostok, who brings 20 years of solar and energy related experience to Alectris, was most recently vice president at Amonix, a U.S. based designer and manufacturer of concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) commercial solar power systems.

“As O&M matures in this country, you will see more developers and asset owners require the input of performance considerations from the beginning of the project,” continued Kostok.

The Origis Energy projects under Georgia Power’s Large-Scale Solar Initiative utilize the full range of Alectris solar PV O&M services including ACTIS (Asset Control Telemetry Information System) the company’s proprietary software.  ACTIS is a platform to deliver holistic data for preventative and real time asset management reporting.

The remote Georgia solar installation locations, approximately four hours south of Atlanta, demonstrate Alectris O&M offerings are location neutral.  At the same time they are examples of the close communication and coordination needed between the engineering, construction and O&M teams throughout all stages of a solar PV project to guarantee the highest performance for the solar plant owner.
